The Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers saw the clock strike midnight for the Cinderella hopeful at Principal Park on Tuesday night falling to the Gilbert Tigers by the score of 4-0. The game moves Gilbert to 22-3 on the season, while ADM will finish their final record at 12-8.
They ran into a buzzsaw in starting Gilbert pitcher Easton Johnson, as he was able to go six innings giving up just six hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts as well. ADMs Zach Fuller gave a tremendous effort in his final start going 4 1/3 giving up 3 runs in two earned, five hits, two walks, and striking out six.
The key in this game was the fourth inning, as Gilbert was able to bring three across the plate during the frame, and were able to get big production out of their bottom of the lineup with RBI singles from their seven and nine hitters, and a sacrifice fly from their eighth hitter. They brought eight hitters to the frame which would be more than enough for the starting pitcher Johnson, who was able to record three hits on the night as well.
The ADM offense was able to get runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings during the game, but unfortunately couldn’t get that key hit that was needed to finish out the game.
It was a productive season for the Tigers, as they won a part of the Raccoon River Conference Championship, won the Substate 7 regional, and ultimately was able to book their second consecutive trip to Des Moines for the state baseball tournament. Though the Tigers weren’t able to accomplish winning a game in Des Moines, this club has established a new expectation of getting to Des Moines every single year. Congrats to ADM baseball on a great season.
