The names of the individuals who were involved in a multi-vehicle wreck last weekend have been released.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 7:49 p.m. a GMC Sierra truck driven by 31-year-old Samantha Whitney of Joplin, Missouri was traveling westbound on Highway 44 near Sportsman Club Road when it crossed the centerline and collided with a 2006 Dodge Ram truck and trailer that was operated by 45-year-old Trevor Cozad of Yale. When the collision occurred, the trailer from Cozad’s truck detached and struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 42-year-old Erika Cozad of Yale. Whitney was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines via air ambulance. Several passengers in the vehicles were also injured including 58-year-old Rhonda Gragg of Perry, who was flown to MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines by air ambulance; along with Trevor and Erika Cozad, and two minors, were taken to Methodist Medical Center by Dallas County Emergency Medical Services. Whitney and Gragg had serious to life-threatening injuries, and Trevor and Erika Cozad and the two minors suffered minor to serious injuries.
Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla tells Raccoon Valley Radio the truck that was driven by Whitney was reported stolen moments before the wreck. Dinkla adds alcohol may be a factor. All those involved were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Dallas County EMS.
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information once it becomes available.
