Those camping at Lenon Mill or Nations Bridge parks in Guthrie County can be better prepared for severe weather thanks to Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says visitors at either of the County parks can now sign up for notifications through Alert Iowa, a statewide mass notification and emergency messaging system from Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, “Emergency Management was able to set that up for us and it was humbling for them to think about us and our parks, it was very nice for them to think that and propose that and of course we jumped on board with being able to provide our park users with this type of system. So I can’t thank Emergency Management enough for initially thinking of us and starting that process so that this could come into play.”
Halterman says signage has been posted at both of the parks’ registration kiosks informing the public on how to sign up for the alert system. This is a free service that can send text messages and emails when a severe weather watch or warning has been issued for the registered area by the National Weather Service.
