The Greene County High School baseball and softball seasons ended a week ago, but the teams that knocked the Rams out in both sports have advanced to their respective State tournaments.

The Rams lost in the semifinal round of Class 3A Region 2 softball to number 4 Humboldt in Humboldt on July 17 by a 10-0 score in five innings by the 10-run rule. The Wildcats are the number four seed with a 20-2 record and face #5 seed Mount Vernon (20-4) in the quarterfinals on Monday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge. There is a Jefferson connection to the MV softball program in head coach Robin Brand. She’s for former Robin Olhausen of Jefferson, a Jefferson-Scranton High School graduate.

Dallas Center-Grimes defeated Greene County 15-1 in baseball on July 17 in the first round of Class 3A District 15 play. The Mustangs play at Principal Park in Des Moines in the quarterfinal round of the State Tournament on Tuesday, July 28 at 4:30 p.m. vs. Benton Community.

The State Baseball Tournament begins today in Des Moines with a pair of Class 1A games. The State Softball Tournament begins north of Ft. Dodge on Monday.
