The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors held another long discussion this week about the price tag for the new law enforcement center addition as they prepare to submit bid documents for contractors next month.
Project manager the Samuels Group and Shive-Hattery Architecture and Engineering informed the Board previously that the cost of the new jail was nearing $9.3 million, more than the $8.7 million bond referendum that voters passed in March. Sid Samuels and architect Mike Lewis gave updated plans to the Board Tuesday, which included decreasing the size of the sallyport.
A big sticking point in the discussion was the generator, which Samuels and Lewis found that a natural gas generator which the Board requested would cost about $40,000 higher than the initial cost of one powered by diesel fuel. Supervisor Mike Dickson voiced his disappointment, citing neglect of the architect and posited whether they would need to higher a new one. Samuels said they are still in a good spot and they should continue to get bids sent out this August as he thinks bids will be aggressive due to a lack of projects going on currently.
