Wednesday night the Dallas Center-Grimes Softball team knew it just needed to secure one more win to advance to the State Tournament in Fort Dodge for the second consecutive year, and 8 of the past 10 seasons.

The Fillies needed all 7 innings to notch the victory, but the win was solidified by an unlikely source.  DC-G and Ballard were knotted up at 5 runs a piece heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.  The Fillies had one final chance to win the game in regulation, and 8th grader, Aubrey Johansen came through in a big way.  The young star, who looked more like a seasoned, upperclassman eyed her pitch and drove the ball back up the middle to send home the winning run to end the game, 6-5 in favor of DC-G.

Ballard’s season comes to a close with a 10-8 record.  Ballard was much better than their record lead on, as the Bombers compete in the ultra talented Raccoon River Conference that also features ADM, and Carlisle.

Steve Schlafke’s club gets the next 5 days to prepare for their Quarterfinal match-up on Monday.  DC-G is seeded #6 and will face #3 seed, Fairfield at 5:00pm Monday night in Fort Dodge.
