The 2020 Greene County Relay for Life has announced additional changes to its annual fundraiser.
In accordance with the guidelines from the American Cancer Society that won’t allow for large group events due to COVID-19, the local main event will have only a few items scheduled on Friday, August 7th at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. A community barbecue will be from 5-6:30pm with to-go meals donated by Jefferson Hy-Vee with grilled burgers or brats with chips, a cookie and water. Volunteers will serve car-side or drive-thru in the parking lot for a free-will donation. The other activity will be luminarias on display at the retaining wall of the community center’s southwest corner from 8-9pm. Members of the public are encouraged to walk and drive by them. Luminarias can be purchased for $10 either during the barbecue or in advance by contacting Shirley Stapleton at 5150386-2804.
Another way people can get involved include purchasing a Relay for Life t-shirt featuring this year’s theme of “We are HOPE” that will be printed on a baseball-style three-quarter sleeve jersey. Shirts will be available soon at ShineOn Designs for $15, which will go directly to Relay for Life due to the sponsorship of American Athletic Incorporated/Spaulding and ShineOn Designs. Finally, an online auction will be from September 8th-11th with more details coming soon.
