The Panorama baseball team upset the fifth ranked team in Class 2A to get one step closer to the state tournament.

The Panthers made the trip to Granger to take on #5 Woodward Granger. A team they have lost to twice already this season. Panorama set the tone early with a three run first inning. Just as it’s been for the regular season, Panorama starting pitching was great. That is until Woodward Granger strung some runs together to tie the game in the third inning. The Panthers would get back those three runs in the fourth to regain a three run lead. Panorama would add two more insurance runs in the seventh before shutting the door and locking up the 8-3 win to clinch the district championship.

Drew Taylor was the star at the dish going 4-4 with two runs scored and two more runs batted in. Senior Luke South showed how badly he wanted to extend his senior season with an outstanding relief appearance going three innings giving up zero runs and just two hits while striking out five.

Panorama will face off against another WCAC foe Tuesday when they square off against Des Moines Christian. Historically Des Moines Christian has had Panorama’s number winning 16 of their last 20 matchups with the Panthers. However, Panorama got the last laugh with a 6-2 victory earlier this season.
