A quick reacting Perry property owner extinguished a fire as fire crews arrived on scene.

Perry Assistant Fire Chief Brian Eiteman says they responded to the fire call at 6:24pm Saturday at 1019 Otley Avenue. Eiteman tells Raccoon Valley Radio a five gallon gasoline container ignited on fire inside the garage for some unknown reason. He says the property owner, Ryan Hodges, placed a 55-gallon barrel over the fire to put it out. Eiteman notes once fire crews were on scene, they used a hose to cool the area down.

Eiteman says Hodges had minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by medical personnel. There was no damage to the property.
