As Iowa is starting to experience another surge of COVID-19 cases, health officials continue to encourage individuals to get tested.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says the free option for a COVID-19 test is still with the TestIowa program. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio, if someone believes they are experiencing symptoms or who may have been exposed to someone who is infected with the virus, to take the TestIowa assessment. If the test recommends the individual to get a test, then that person can visit a designated TestIowa site.

However, Wolf points out that if you are needing a test through TestIowa, there might be delays.

“Now the thing they have to remember is you’re unlikely to get in the same day. There’s a lot of people wanting to get tested now, which is a good thing. But you can’t just get tested on the fly.”

Wolf notes that you can take the TestIowa assessment as many times as you want. She explains the aftermath of a test.

“When we do a COVID test, what we’re doing is taking a snapshot of today when you got your test. And if you had a negative – because of today’s test – then that means today you were negative. But we’ve had people that have tested negative and then a few days later – because they were exposed to a person with COVID – they turned positive or they started having symptoms.”
