The Perry Jayette softball team put the frustrations of the regular season behind them and turned in their best all around performance Thursday night on the road defeating Gilbert 4-0 in the opening round of the 4A Regional competition.  The Jayettes scored all four runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Senior Molly Lutmer delivered a two-out 2-run single followed by a Cassady Heck RBI single that scored a pair after a Gilbert error in centerfield.  That was plenty of offense for sophomore Jayna Kenney and the Perry defense.  Kenney threw her best game of the season scattering three hits and one walk over seven innings after allowing 18 hits and 12 runs in her first start against Gilbert earlier in the year.  Lydia Olejniczak led the offense with three hits and a pair of stolen bases.  Macy Killmer reached base three times and Heck added a pair of hits as well.  Gilbert’s lone threat took place in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with two outs but Kenney was able to entice a harmless ground ball out in preserving the victory.

Perry will travel to Dallas Center Grimes Saturday night for a Regional semifinal against the Fillies.  You can listen to the game on KDLS.
