The Greene County School Board approved the school district’s plan to reopen this fall.

School buildings have been closed since mid-March due to COVID-19, but the initial reopening plan for Greene County is to bring everyone on-site. Superintendent Tim Christensen says they are highly encouraging students to wear face masks, and they will have hand sanitizer stations in or near each classroom at all grade levels. Online learning is available for students that have underlying conditions and Christensen points out that if your child has COVID-19 symptoms to keep them home for 14 days and contact the school.

“We need to have as much communication as possible because nurses will be tracking absences of students and staff, because we are working with public health. It hasn’t been determined yet but what the threshold is if students and staff are absent due to potentially COVID related, is that a trigger point where we need to close school for two weeks. We’re still working on that.”

Another important aspect of the plan is how classroom learning would continue if a teacher tests positive for the virus.

“We would look at putting in a system in the classroom where they would be able to teach remotely and we would have somebody supervise  the classroom. So we would be able to continue having that teacher teach.”

Christensen is asking for community and parental feedback to see what other accommodations can be made to help make parents more comfortable about sending their child back to school.
