The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

The Board approved the district’s reopening plan for the upcoming school year. Parts of the plan include having students and staff on-site, recommending face masks but also requiring masks for students that visit the school nurse, as well as providing online learning for those who have underlying conditions, hand sanitizer stations at each classroom and assigned bus seating. Plans are subject to change depending on the changes with COVID-19.

The Board also approved special policies relating to COVID-19, which were mandated from the federal government. Additionally, the Board approved its depositories, as well as the handbooks for bus drivers, coaches and directors, employees, and students and parents as presented for the 2020-2021 school year. The Board also approved a $400,000 tax deduction for Henkel Construction Company for the middle school conversion project and the new high school project, bond disclosure procedures as presented, one fundraiser request for Greene County FFA, the first reading to amend a board policy for advertising to trademark the district’s new logo, as well as the dairy provider for the upcoming school year with Anderson Erickson and Pan O Gold as the bakery provider. 

The Board reappointed Brenda Muir as board secretary, Sid Jones as board treasurer and Mumma and Pedersen as legal counsel. A change order to remove the final asbestos from the middle school conversion project for $7,200, a purchase order of $380,543 for furniture and equipment for the new high school and career academy, commissioning IMEG for the middle school project, an annual agreement with Iowa Central Community College for its Project Earlybird program, and selecting for legislative priorities to submit to the Iowa Association of School Boards, including mental health, preschool, teacher recruitment and licensure, and school funding policy. 

The Board tabled its goals as well as the superintendent goal setting closed session to next month’s meeting.
