Greene County was a 6-4 victor in eight innings on Monday night at Nevada to close out the high school baseball regular season. The Rams went 3-11 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and overall. The game was similar to the first time the teams met in Jefferson late last month, but this time it was a two-run Greene County win whereas Nevada won 5-3 the first time around. The Cubs fell to 6-13 and ended 4-10 in the conference in a contest heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Senior Brent Riley was the winning pitcher in relief of senior starter Tyler Teeples. Both went four innings with Teeples allowing three runs, all earned, and Riley giving up just one unearned run. The Cubs had eight hits and two errors.
Nevada led 2-1 after one inning and 3-1 after three. The Rams had a three-run fifth and went ahead 4-3. An unearned run in the bottom of the sixth knotted the score at 4-4 before sophomore Joe Carey’s two run, two out single scored the Riley brothers, Brent and Max, and put the Rams ahead for good. Carey finished with two hits and two RBI. Max Riley had three singles and sophomore Bryce Stalder tripled for the Rams first three-bagger of the season. Brent Riley and Stalder each knocked in a run and freshman Brayden Roberts scored on a delayed steal of home. The Rams totaled nine hits and two errors.
