The Perry School District officially welcomed its first new Activities Director in over 40 years, as Scott Pierce took over the position effective July 1st.

Pierce has been with Perry Schools since 2014, serving as a physical education teacher, coach for various sports, and the strength and conditioning instructor. The School Board hired him as the AD in April, making him the successor to the retiring Tom Lipovac who had been with the District since 1977. Pierce was selected from 30 initial candidates and four finalists for the job, and was chosen in part because of his familiarity with the students and school. He says his first year will largely be about learning the nuances of the position, but eventually he’s hopeful to foster better participation and competitiveness in activities through all grade levels.

Pierce says he’s excited to get going in the position, adding that it appealed to him for many reasons. “I just like to be around people (and) I love to be around students. I love seeing student success when I get to see it in a classroom first throughout the day, and then transfer that into the court or the field. I really just like the process of everything. I know it’s a busy schedule; I wouldn’t have accepted it, and no one would accept this position without knowing you’re going to put some time in. And I enjoy putting the time in, and I actually kind of look forward to having my own kids go through the time with me and be here with me, (and) my wife be here with me. You know, I wouldn’t have accepted it if they wouldn’t have accepted it either.”
