An all-woman organization is asking for the public’s help to revitalize a downtown Jefferson business.
Why Not Us originally began as a group of 45 women dedicated to bringing back a staple business, Angie’s Teagarden to its former location at 100 East State Street. The business had to suddenly close its doors in February of 2019 after a broken water line brought 40,000 gallons of water from a vacant second floor apartment into the business. The group of women contributed $5,000 to jumpstart the revitalization of the restaurant.
Since then, Why Not Us has created a Board of Directors and is looking to complete the interior renovations once the building is turned over to them from the City, which is currently installing a new roof.
Why Not Us is seeking additional monetary contributions of any amount to help with the project. The Board suggests honoring a female family member by listing them as a memorial or tribute to the Friends of Why Not Us. For more information, check out their Facebook page, email at WhyNotUsTea@gmail.com or contact any board member. Board members include Peg Raney, Rita Pedersen, Debra McGinn, Carol Zwicky, Jacque Andrew, Shirley Stapleton, Ruth Freeman, Jeanne Myers, Ginny Showman and Karen Voge-Perkins. Checks can be made payable to Why Not Us Board member Rita Pedersen at P.O. Box 310 in Jefferson or dropped off at 114 South Wilson Avenue in Jefferson.
