A combined high school/middle school track & field meet was held on Tuesday in Brooklyn, IA at BGM, and two Greene County High School athletes took part. Graduated senior Carter Morton and senior-to-be Jaxon Warnke were in the one-class meet with no team scoring, that included males and females from all classes of Iowa high schools, as well as some athletes from Minnesota and Wisconsin. Track & field was one of the high school seasons that was cancelled by COVID-19.

Morton competed in the 110 meter high hurdles and long jump. The high jump was his best event as a high school junior where he cleared the bar at 6′ 8″, but that event was not one of those held at BGM. Morton was fourth in the short hurdles race in 15.18 seconds, and he finished tenth in the long jump at 19′ 9-1/4″. Long jump was an event he rarely competed in while in high school.

Warnke ran the 200 meter dash and was 19th in 24.77 seconds.

Chad Morton, head coach of the boys’ track & field program at Greene County HS, told Raccoon Valley Radio the hurdles and 200 meter dash times were personal bests.

Carter Morton will be attending the U. of Northern Iowa and be a member of the track & field squad. A versatile athlete, it’s possible he has a career as a decathlete on the collegiate level.
