The AC/GC softball team had an opportunity to avenge an opening day loss Tuesday night.
Woodward Granger made the trip to Guthrie Center to try to complete the season sweep of the Chargers. The first time these two teams played was the first game of the year. AC/GC took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th before the Hawks plated five runs to comeback and win 5-4. The Chargers had a shot at revenge.
Woodward Granger started off the scoring in the top of the second when Emma Anderson reached when she was hit by a pitch. She came around to score on a Rian Jameison single. AC/GC would respond swiftly in their half of the inning when Olivia Van Meter led off the inning with a lead-off double. She came around to score the first of four runs by AC/GC as they jumped to a 4-1 lead.
AC/GC found themselves in a familiar situation entering the final inning with a four run lead, 7-3. The Hawks threatened and even plated a run before the Chargers were able to close the door to clinch the 7-4 victory. The Chargers will play the Hawks again next week in the first round of post season play.
