While the annual Fourth of July celebrations throughout Dallas County have all been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, each of the communities that typically host them is still offering some entertainment for residents this evening.

The Perry, Minburn, and Waukee fireworks displays will each be held tonight, much to the relief of Independence Day revelers in the area. Perry’s display, which is completely community funded each year, will begin at around 9:30 p.m. The location will be the same as it always has, at the recycling center on the south side of town, so people wanting to see the show should find a good view of the southern sky. However, the City advises people to practice social distancing if they view the fireworks at Pattee Park, which has traditionally been the hot locale for the presentation.

The Minburn fireworks display, which has been supported mostly this year by private donations and the local American Legion and fire department, will begin at dusk tonight. Donations can still be made today to any Legion member or firefighter, and City staff asks the public to social distance themselves when viewing the show. Finally, the City of Waukee has cancelled all of their 4th of July festivities except for their fireworks presentation and the appearance of the Des Moines Skydivers Club. Professional skydivers will land in Centennial Park at 8 p.m., and the public is invited to come for the drop-in and stay for the fireworks.
