As the Fourth of July holiday grows closer, it’s important for the public to know the rules and regulations regarding the use of fireworks within certain municipalities.

The City of Adel advises all residents that their strict prohibition of fireworks is once again in effect. Per the Adel code of ordinances, the use of consumer fireworks and novelties is not allowed within city limits at any time, even though the sale of such items is currently allowed. City staff notes that in 2017 the Iowa Legislature passed a law that allows the sale and use of consumer fireworks and novelties in the state, but they may be restricted by individual cities. The ban on fireworks within Adel city limits predates the state law, and the City Council elected to keep their fireworks ordinance and continue the prohibition after the legislation was signed.

Anyone found in violation of the ordinance will be cited and issued a fine. Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to Adel City Hall at 515-993-4525.
