The Jefferson Public Library has announced that it will open its doors in a limited capacity to the public starting next week.
The Library Board of Trustees has scheduled the re-opening of the library for Monday. The library buildings have been closed since March 18th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The library will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, for limited hours.
When patrons come into the library there are several safety recommendations to be aware of. Anyone entering the buildings is required to wear a mask and public restrooms will remain closed. Patrons are asked to keep their time inside the library to a minimum to allow others to enter the building, while also practicing social distancing of at least six feet. There are areas of the library that space is limited and librarians will be available to help retrieve materials.
Additionally, public computers will be limited to 45 minutes and workstations may be cleaned between uses. Library Director Jane Millard requests anyone needing to use a computer to call and make a reservation ahead of time. The photo kiosk, fax and scanner will also be available when the building is open. The library will continue to provide curbside pick-up and home deliveries for those who don’t feel comfortable entering the buildings. The library’s free wireless internet access will continue to be provided in the parking lot.
Finally, the length of time that books and movies can be checked out has been extended and there will continue to be no overdue fees through the rest of this month. All items that are returned to the library will be cleaned and quarantined before being returned to the shelves. Anyone with questions can contact the library.
