Across the country, some states are seeing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, which could also have an impact later this fall with additional waves of the virus.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says the 2019 novel coronavirus is still a new virus, which comes with its unpredictability.

“Typical with novel viruses is that they have the ability to change and morph their characteristics. They can become more virulent or more severe with their symptoms they cause, and the health complications that can occur. They can weaken, but typically a novel virus will go through a trend of waves over the course of who knows how long?”

Wolf notes the unpredictability of this virus will cause it to come in waves, and it will be especially challenging in the fall and winter months during the influenza season. She says because both COVID-19 and the flu have similar symptoms, the two viruses may likely be confused without testing.
