Four seniors from across Guthrie County recently received scholarships from the Guthrie County Hospital Auxiliary.
Each year the Auxiliary awards a $500 scholarship to a student from the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Panorama, and West Central Valley high schools, and this year’s recipients are Keely Vacey of ACGC, Cora McAlister of Coon Rapids-Bayard, Payton Douglass of Panorama, and Kaila Findley of West Central Valley. The Auxiliary also serves to assist the hospital with equipment purchases and more, and they fundraise with a biannual baked potato bar and bake sale event. President Charlotte Jackson says the recipients will receive the scholarships after they successfully complete their first semester of post-secondary education, “Our group is associated closely with the hospital and we’re trying to help the people in our communities and like I say, they like it to be in the medical field somehow.”
The students were each sent a letter notifying them of the award. The Auxiliary cancelled their April baked potato bar event due to COVID-19, so Jackson hopes the event will return in the fall.
