A beautiful night for Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball Thursday evening at Hennessy Field in Roland resulted in a contest filled with 12 combined errors, six for each team, and a 6-4 Roland-Story victory. The Rams are now 1-4 overall and in the HOIAC with four losses in a row while the Norsemen improved to 6-3.
Freshman Emma Hoyle was the pitcher of record for the Rams. None of the R-S runs was earned. Hoyle allowed five hits and three walks, while she struck out five.
Greene County still is without an extra base hit for the season. All seven hits were singles and the Rams left 11 runners on base. Seniors Kyla Beyers and Izzy Bravard each had two hits with one each for freshmen Olivia Shannon and Emma Stream, and a hit from Kaylee Stalder, an eighth grader. Beyers, Shannon, Stalder, and senior Tieryn Tucker each drove in a run.
Both teams had leads they couldn’t hold. The contest ended with two Greene County runners on base at second and third.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is off until Monday when they will host Nevada at the City Diamond on E. Lincolway in Jefferson.
