Raccoon River Pet Rescue in Perry continues to slowly welcome animals into their new facility, and they recently received a donation from an unexpected source.

Afton Meyers celebrated a birthday not long ago, and instead of presents she asked her friends and family to give her pet care supplies, food, and toys to be donated to the shelter. The assortment of dog and cat items was delivered by Afton herself, and the RRPR staff and board were overwhelmed by her generosity. The animal shelter currently has adult cats and kittens in need of homes, though at present they’re not yet ready for adoption. However, the building is officially complete and the facility is now licensed to care for the animals, so adoptions will be available soon.

Until then, Raccoon River Pet Rescue invites the public to schedule an appointment to visit the facility and see the animals, and if any spark their fancy they can at least begin the adoption process. Staff also encourages donations of needed items like Afton did, as well as monetary donations to help get them up and running.
