The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area saw slight decreases in unemployment last month, though the percentages continue to be high.

According to Iowa Workforce Development, Greene and Guthrie counties were at 8.5-percent unemployment for May, compared to 10.2-percent and 10.4-percent respectively in April. Dallas County was down to seven-percent unemployment in May, compared to 7.6-percent in April. However, all three counties continue to have high unemployment compared to this time last year. In May of 2019, Iowa Workforce Development reports Dallas County was at 1.9-percent unemployment, while Greene County was at 2.5-percent and Guthrie County was 2.6-percent.

The statewide unemployment rate for last month was ten-percent and the national rate was 13.3-percent.
