Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state, the Adel Public Library has been closed to the public, much like most others in central Iowa.
However, with state-mandated restrictions being lifted over the last month, the library has slowly begun the process of reopening. The first phase of their plan started on May 26th and involved curbside checkouts for the community, as well as access to library services by appointment. Phase two is in effect as of today, and patrons are now allowed to enter the library for specific reasons. The service desk is now reopened and a clerk is available to assist the public with services including: retrieving and checking out materials; browsing new items; copying, faxing, printing, and scanning; library card applications, renewals, and replacements; and summer reading cards and crafts.
There is also one public computer available, though only for 30 minutes at a time and by reservation. The rest of the library will remain closed for the time being, which includes the community and meeting rooms, public restrooms, seating, play areas, and story rooms. There will be no in-person programs or events this summer, and no-contact services are still available. The library will be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Anyone with questions can call the library at 515-993-3512, visit their website by clicking the link below, or email Library Director Paula James at Paula@adelpl.org.
