Wet grounds forced postponement of Monday’s Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball and baseball with North Polk (Alleman) for the Greene County teams. They’ll hope to play for the first time this week tonight against the PCM teams. Softball is played in Monroe and baseball in Prairie City.

All four teams are below the .500 mark in the early going with the Rams at 1-2 in softball and 0-3 in baseball. The Mustangs are 1-3 in softball and 1-2 in baseball.

Both Greene County teams have had some issues at the plate and in the field. The softball Rams have allowed 16 runs in three games with nine of the runs being unearned, and Greene County is looking for its first softball extra base hit of the season. The baseball team has scored just six runs in three games and four of those came in the same contest. The Rams have just 14 hits in three games and 12 of those are singles.

PCM’s softball team is among the youngest in the state with 10 players seeing action in their four games to this point. Eight freshmen, one eighth grader, and one senior, have played in every contest for the Mustangs. PCM has had fielding issues on the baseball diamond with 13 errors in three games, resulting in 10 unearned runs.

After tonight, the Greene County teams are on the road tomorrow night vs. Roland-Story. The Thursday night softball is in Roland with the baseball at Story City.
