Greene County High School’s scheduled Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball action vs. North Polk in Alleman was called off around 1 p.m. Monday with school officials saying the diamonds were too wet to play on. The game will be made up on Monday, July 6 as part of a varsity only doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. in Jefferson vs. the Comets. Ram softball will play a varsity only doubleheader vs. NP in Alleman on July 6.
First year head coach Matt Paulsen’s team is still looking for win number one after starting the season 0-3 last week. The Rams play PCM tomorrow night in Prairie City and face Roland-Story Thursday night in Story City.
Coach Paulsen told Raccoon Valley Radio there is good news on the injury front. He expects senior shortstop and number three hitter Nick Breon to return to the lineup vs. PCM. Breon has been bothered by a knee issue. He left the season opening 2-1 loss in Des Moines vs. Saydel right after singling in the only run for the Rams in the top of the third inning and did not return. Breon did not play in losses last week to South Hamilton (Jewell) and Gilbert.
