The AC/GC baseball team needed much less time out to earn their first win this season compared to last.
In 2019 the Chargers didn’t get their first victory until their eighteenth game, this year they earned one in the first week of competition. WCAC foe Pleasantville made the trip to Guthrie Center in what was supposed to be a varsity double header but was condensed to just a single game due to the threat of inclement weather. Last year the Trojans bested AC/GC twice with a combined score of 24-4.
The Chargers struck first when leadoff hitter Charlie Crawford reached on a walk, stole second, and came around to score after a Miles Kading groundout and a sacrifice fly from Bryce Litter. Crawford scored another run in the third reaching while showing off his speed by reaching on an infield single and again stealing second base. Newell Rodgers then came through with an RBI double to bring Crawford home.
Rodgers was also on the mound for the Chargers and was lights out in his season debut. The junior threw six full innings, giving up only one run, and striking out four. Bryce Littler entered the game in the seventh to close out the contest. After giving up back-to-back singles to start the inning, Littler calmed things down by drawing a ground out, then a double play to clinch the first win for AC/GC.
The Chargers will be back in Action Monday when they make the trip to Ogden. You can listen to that game on K107.9 FM with pre-game coverage to start around 6:15 p.m.
