Emergency crews responded to an apartment fire at the Hamlin-Bell facility in Perry, which was extinguished quickly before it could cause much damage or injuries.

According to Assistant Perry Fire Chief Brian Eiteman, the call came in at around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Perry Police officers were first on the scene and were able to put out the fire with their extinguishers. Eiteman said by the time fire crews arrived the flames were out, so they focused on evacuating the smoke on the second floor, where the fire was contained. The blaze started in a trash can next to a toilet in the bathroom of one of the apartments, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

There were no injuries reported and the only damage was some light fire damage on the floor of the bathroom and smoke damage on the second floor. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
