The Guthrie Center School Board discussed plans for the upcoming high school graduation ceremony.
Superintendent Dennis McClain told the Board Monday that the ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 28th, and in order to socially distance attendees, it will be held on the football field, “We’ll have students in the bleachers, we’ll have their names on the bleachers so that we can social distance them. Then they’ll line up on the track, we’ll announce their awards as they’re coming up to the stage and crossing the stage. Families will be able to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs, be in the field or around the track on the opposite side.”
Each family is asked to limit attendees to four to six family members. In the event of inclement weather, graduation will be moved to the gymnasium and attendees will be limited to two per graduate. For other postponed school events, the high school is planning on holding a prom on July 18th. If social distancing restrictions are not lifted by then, they may just hold a grand march or cancel prom entirely. A final decision will be announced two weeks in advance.
