A 7-1 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference loss to South Hamilton (Jewell) for the Greene County High School softball team dropped head coach Tom Kennedy’s team to 1-1 on the season, and in the conference. The action took place on Wednesday night in Jefferson at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in the home opener for the Rams. The Hawks improved to 2-1 overall and in the HOIAC. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

SH scored an unearned run in the first and two more unearned runs in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. It was 6-0 after five innings and 7-1 after six. Senior Jessi Harms threw a complete game for the Hawks, allowing four hits, all singles, and the run off her was unearned. Freshman Emma Hoyle took the pitching loss for Greene County.

Harms retired the first eight batters before freshman Alexa Peters singled up the middle with two outs in the third. Sophomore Carmyn Paup singled in the fourth inning while senior Izzy Bravard singled in the sixth, and senior Kyla Beyers opened the seventh with a base hit. Freshman Emma Stream drove in the lone run for the Rams.

The Rams will try to get back in the win column Friday night in Gilbert.
