The home portion of the Greene County High School baseball season didn’t start the way the Rams had hoped. South Hamilton (Jewell) was a 10-4 winner over first year head coach Matt Paulsen’s team in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play Wednesday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. The Hawks out hit the Rams 19-4 and the winning team played errorless ball. Greene County was charged with three physical errors and had other issues with the mental part of the game at times.

SH led 2-0 after one inning, 4-0 after two, and 5-0 at the end of the third. A four-run fourth made it 9-0 before the Rams scored once int he bottom of the sixth. The Hawks got a run in the top of the seventh and Greene County closed out the scoring with three bottom of the seventh runs.

Justin Stream doubled and had two runs batted in, while Brent Riley added a double, and Max Riley and Tyler Teeples each had base hits. Max Riley and Teeples each had one RBI.

Brent Riley took the pitching loss. He went the first three innings, allowing five runs, four earned. Alex Roberts pitched the final four frames and allowed five runs, all earned.

Greene County plays in Gilbert on Friday night.
