Dallas County is discontinuing their rural recycling service effective July 1st, which will affect many rural residents.
The Environmental Health Department announced this week that the recycling sites near Linden, Perry, Redfield, and Woodward, as well as the Washington Township location, will be eliminated. The County is currently working to find other means for rural residents to recycle, but no firm plan is in place at this time. In the meantime, rural residents will be able to utilize the Metro Park West Landfill near Perry and the Metro Northwest Transfer Station near Grimes to drop off recycling, though there is a charge for those services.
No justification for discontinuing the program was given, and the decision came as a surprise to the Board of Supervisors, though the Environmental Health Department has said in the past that the County loses a fair amount of money each year through recycling.
