There will be no eight game losing streak to start the 2020 high school softball season for the Greene County Rams like there was a year ago. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams started the COVID-19 abbreviated schedule with a 6-4 road win on Monday night in Des Moines at Saydel in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.

Freshman Emma Hoyle pitched all seven innings, allowing just two hits while walking four batters, hitting two with pitches, and recording four strikeouts. Greene County’s defense was charged with three errors and just one of Saydel’s runs was earned.

The Rams had seven hits with two by senior Tieryn Tucker, and one each from senior Izzy Bravard, Hoyle, freshmen Emma Stream, Alexa Peters, and Oliva Shannon. All of Greene County’s hits were singles. Tucker drove in two runs with one RBI each from Bravard, Hoyle, and Stream. The Rams were aided by six Saydel errors.

The game was tied 2-2 after two innings before the Rams scored three runs in the top of the sixth. The Eagles put two on the board in their half of the sixth, and Greene County added the final run in the seventh.

Next up is the home opener tomorrow night vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com from the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson. Coverage begins around 7 p.m.
