With temperatures to be in the lower 90s for a few days this week, it’s a good time to remember to use sunblock when heading outdoors.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf recommends using sunblock with a Sun Protection Factor of 30 or higher. She says these types of sunscreens provide protection against ultraviolet A and B rays. Wolf describes when to apply sunscreen and how often you should reapply it.

“You should apply it 30 minutes before you go out into the sun and then again every two hours. If you are swimming or sweating a lot, you need to reapply it again.”

Wolf points out that sunblock should be applied to dry skin to achieve the highest effectiveness of protection. She adds, unfortunately this year there will be no free sunblock from public health at public areas in Greene County like in the past.
