Dallas County is still playing the waiting game with regards to the opening of the new law enforcement center, though the finish line is definitely in view.

Sheriff Chad Leonard says though the first two sections of the facility are all but ready to be moved into, the jail portion still has a little ways to go. He points out that they would prefer to not move things over in phases, so even with the administrative areas ready to go he’d rather wait until the jail has reached that point. Leonard notes that his staff should be able to start training on the new equipment and facilities within the next week or so, but the move-in date is still likely not for another month.

He adds, the center’s opening likely won’t be accompanied by the pomp and circumstance he feels it deserves. “The unfortunate thing is, we probably won’t be able to do a grand opening, and do all those things with the coronavirus and all the social distancing. That’ll be unfortunate, you know I was hoping to be able to let all the public come out and tour it. And we might still be able to figure something out along those lines to get people in that want to see it, but as far as having a big grand opening and all that, that’s probably not going to happen. But it’s been long overdue, so I’m just kind of excited to get everybody under one roof and get moving!”
