Saturday evening, the Perry High School Class of 2020 was at long last honored with their commencement ceremony.
The event was in question due to the cancellation of school after March 13th as a result of the COVDI-19 pandemic, but to the students’ and families’ relief the administration was able to make an in-person graduation possible. The biggest change, other than the date, was the location. For the first time in several years, the ceremony was held outdoors at Dewey Field, in order to accommodate proper social distancing. The evening’s weather was ideal for the proceedings, and the spirits were high for all attendees.
The event was emceed by High School Principal Dan Marburger, and speakers included Superintendent Clark Wicks, Senior Class President Hannah Peterson, and Bluejay Congress President Odaly Perla-Cortez. Marburger recognized the students who earned various honors over their high school careers, and then presented the diplomas to the 165 graduates, learning center, home school, and foreign exchange students, and honorary graduates, with the aid of school board members.
The event was live-streamed on the high school’s social media, so those who couldn’t attend because of limited ticket availability could still watch the ceremony. To view the video of the 2020 Perry graduation, click the link below to visit the high school’s Facebook page.
