The City of Panora discussed a possible car show being held the weekend of the now-cancelled Panorama Days at their recent meeting.
Resident Kellie Flanery informed the Council during the public forum that she wanted to host an inaugural show either on the Middle Raccoon River or downtown the weekend of August 7th. She suggested the river as being a unique way to brand the event, though she wants the show to help downtown businesses recoup the potential revenues they lost due to the cancellation of the annual town celebration. City Administrator Lisa Grossman told Flanery that it was too late to apply to the Iowa Department of Transportation to close Main Street as it sits on a state highway, but they could close one of the downtown side streets instead. The Council directed Flanery to bring back a written plan of the event at their next meeting on June 22nd.
In other business, the Council approved a motion to reject an offer to purchase real estate at 119 West Lane Street for $15,000, and directed Grossman to negotiate with the seller for a lower price. They also approved setting June 22nd as the date for a public hearing for a second fiscal year 2020 budget amendment, and approved interfund transfers for the fiscal year 2020 budget.
