The doors are unlocked at the Guthrie County Courthouse for the first time since March as the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to reopen to the public.
The Supervisors closed the courthouse on March 17th, with the public able to conduct any County business with employees over the phone or online, and then they opened the courthouse by appointment only on May 26th. Public Health Director Jotham Arber said he was comfortable with the courthouse opening its doors as it has taken precautionary measures like asking visitors to wear face masks and being equipped with hand sanitizer. The County’s number of positive COVID-19 cases has not increased since last week.
Arber also spoke in support of offices still conducting business by appointment, as the health services building has resumed passport services by appointment only. Information is posted on the east entryway of the courthouse notifying visitors which offices are accessible by appointment only. Guthrie Center and Panora city halls have also reopened to the public, while Stuart City Hall will potentially open the first week of July, according to City Administrator Ashraf Ashour.
