When Greene County head softball coach Tom Kennedy makes out his lineup card for the first time on Monday, June 15 in Des Moines at Saydel High School, he’ll have mostly returning varsity starters to choose from. Standout players Jenna Beyers and Megan Carey graduated in 2019, but all the other varsity mainstays are back, including pitcher and catcher Emma Hoyle and Emma Stream, who both are freshmen.

The coach talks about how he’s seen that returning experience translate into more confident players. “A lot of the returning players had their first varsity experience last year. You can seen the improvement and the confidence in the kids that are coming back. We should be a lot more even throughout the lineup as far as hitting. I think we can go deeper with our at-bats. I think we’ll have a lot of depth at the plate, not a lot of power, but a lot of depth with good hitting.”

KGRA and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will be bringing you a number of Greene County baseball & softball games this summer starting with baseball on June 15 in Des Moines at Saydel HS around 7:30 p.m. The first scheduled softball broadcast is set for June 17 in Jefferson vs. South Hamilton.
