The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with four public hearings. The first was on the update to the Envision Adel 2040 comprehensive plan, the second was regarding an amendment to the all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile ordinances, and the third was on the overall recodification of the City’s Code of Ordinances. The fourth hearing involved the issuance of not-to-exceed $720,000 in water revenue capital loan notes, which was retroactively published through another item on the agenda. Following the hearings, the Council approved resolutions for the recodification and capital loan notes during new business. They also approved the first reading of the ATV ordinance, and tabled action on the comprehensive plan.
Prior to that, they received department head reports on the City’s latest COVID-19 response, transient merchant permits and food truck ordinances, street closure requirements for block parties, and setting a second Council meeting in July. Later in new business, they approved the first readings for ordinances to indefinitely extend current rates for storm water, sanitary sewer, sewer usage, and water rates, in order to accommodate the transition to a new volumetric rate scale for residents. The second readings will be held next month. Next, the Council decided to reopen the Adel Family Aquatic Center for swim lessons this month. Other items approved included: denying a request for de-annexation; several items related to the new water plant and other water related projects; food and liquor sale licenses; and appointments to commissions and committees. Items that were tabled included: a historic preservation grant; a voluntary annexation; and a wireless internet lease proposal.
