The Adel City Council will convene this evening in regular session.

The meeting will begin with four public hearings. The first will be on the update to the Envision Adel 2040 comprehensive plan, the second is regarding an amendment to the all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile ordinances, and the third will be on the overall recodification of the City’s Code of Ordinances. The fourth hearing involves the issuance of not-to-exceed $720,000 in water revenue capital loan notes, which will be retroactively published through another item on the agenda. Following the hearings, the Council will consider resolutions for each item during new business.

Prior to that, they will receive department head reports on the City’s latest COVID-19 response, transient merchant permits and food truck ordinances, street closure requirements for block parties, and setting a second Council meeting in July. Later in new business, they will consider the first readings for ordinances to indefinitely extend current rates for storm water, sanitary sewer, sewer usage, and water rates, in order to accommodate the transition to a new volumetric rate scale for residents. Next, the Council will make a decision regarding when to reopen the Adel Family Aquatic Center, and to what extent. Other items on the agenda include: a historic preservation grant; denying a request for de-annexation and approval of a voluntary annexation; a wireless internet lease proposal; several items related to the new water plant and other water related projects; food and liquor sale licenses; and appointments to commissions and committees.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. tonight, and due to social distancing requirements related to COVID-19 it will be held virtually. You can access the session by calling 515-478-3549 and entering the code 276-872-890#, or by clicking the link below.
