Early Friday morning storms have caused several power outages in Greene County.

Following the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm warning that was issued by the National Weather Service for Greene County at 3:18am, several trees and tree limbs were reported to be down due to the storms, and caused several power outages. Midland Power Cooperative Communications Director Abbey Sprague said outages were reported for 790 customers in Jefferson, Scranton, Churdan, Paton, along with Bagley and Jamaica. Sprague notes the outages were reported at 3:50am that some of their substations lost power due to transmission lines and broken power poles from the storm. She said Midland is rerouting power to some households at this time until power can fully be restored. The outage has also impacted the station signal for KGRA 98.9FM, which is currently running on auxiliary power. 

There were other outages reported in the Jefferson area by Alliant Energy, and crews are working to address the issue.

Greene County Dispatch confirms several trees and tree limbs were reported down due to the storms, but there were no immediate reports of property damage. The severe thunderstorm warning expired just before 4:30am. The one to count on for severe weather coverage is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
