The results from the 2020 primary election are in, and the Dallas County, state, and federal races for the November general election are set.
At the local level, there was only one contested election, which was for the Democratic nomination for Board of Supervisors, District 2. Katherine Fuller of Waukee was the victor over Michael Kern, also of Waukee, earning 69% of the votes. Fuller will oppose incumbent Republican Mark Hanson of Waukee in November. Other local ballots set include: Iowa House of Representatives District 19, between Democrat Nick Miller of Polk City and Republican Carter Nordman of Adel, both of whom would be elected for the first time; House District 20, between incumbent Republican Ray Sorensen of Greenfield and Democrat Ryan Morrison of Stuart; and State Senate District 10, between incumbent Republican Jake Chapman of Adel and Democrat Warren Varley of Stuart. Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm of Adel and Sheriff Chad Leonard of Dallas Center at the moment are running unopposed in November, and both are Republican incumbents.
As for the federal elections, the incumbent Democratic Third District Congresswoman Cindy Axne will be opposed in the general election by former Republican Congressman David Young, who defeated fellow challenger Bill Schafer in the primary. Young won Dallas County with 71% of the vote, in addition to the rest of the Third District. For U.S. Senate, it will be Democrat Theresa Greenfield opposing incumbent Republican Joni Ernst. Greenfield emerged from a group of five candidates to win Dallas County with 44% of the vote, and she won the rest of the state to earn the nomination. As a reminder, all results are unofficial until canvassed by the Board of Supervisors.
