NEWS MEDIA FAQ’s REGARDING COVERING BASEBALL/SOFTBALL PRACTICE & GAMES

NM1) Are media members permitted to attend baseball or softball practices?
A1) At the present time, media are not allowed at practices. In following the guidelines established by the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Department of Education in its COVID-19 Reopening Guidance: Summer Sports released on May 20, essential personnel are only allowed at practice while parents cannot attend practice or must remain in their cars. These guidelines also apply to media.  Contacting local administration to arrange interview requests before and after practice is permissible. With the reopening of the state being phased in, we will continue to monitor what Governor Reynolds allows as the season progresses.

All appropriate social distancing and sanitation measures should be followed while reporting.
News media should call ahead and inquire about the school’s social distancing requirements once June 15 contests begin.

NM2) Are media members permitted to attend baseball or softball games?
A2) Yes. All local social distancing and sanitation guidelines for spectators should be followed by media members planning to attend games. Media members should contact host school administrators prior to arriving at games to plan appropriate entry and available workspace.

NM3) Will players be available for team photos before the season starts?
A3) The IHSAA and IGHSAU do not currently recommend team or large group photos at this time. Guidance will be provided when updates or possible adjustments are available.

NM4) Where should photographers work from during games?
A4) Photographers and reporters will not be permitted to work from dugouts during games. Schools may already have other designated workspace available for photographers and other media members. Softball fields have a designated media box. We have been advised that only one media member at a time can utilize the media box. Further guidance for schools and media members will be issued before June 15.

NM5) Can I livestream these games for anyone who is unable to attend?
A5) Local school districts can decide if and how livestreaming is permitted at regular season baseball and softball games. Media members and spectators should inquire with host school administrators about local recommendations. The production of any livestream (equipment, personnel) must not interfere with the game or spectators.
