The plans for the 2020 Perry High School commencement ceremony are set, though there are a few different options.
The date of graduation will be Sunday, June 13th, though the times depend on the weather. If the weather is nice, the ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at Dewey Field, and it will include all graduates. In case of inclement weather, there will be two separate ceremonies held in the high school gym. The first would be at 4 p.m. for students with last names between A and Martin, with the second at 7 p.m. for last names between Martinez and Z. There will be a mandatory practice on June 12th at 9 a.m., where the graduates will go through both options. Regardless of the format, students are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony, with doors open to attendees an hour prior.
Principal Dan Marburger says the event will be ticketed for the first time in years, and each student will be limited to four guests. The tickets are free and will be handed out at rehearsal. Marburger apologizes they couldn’t offer more than four tickets per student, but given social distancing recommendations, that was the best they could do for the space. “We understand it’s not ideal (but) we appreciate your understanding and flexibility. This’ll be a new experience for all of us, and we are very excited to be able to celebrate our students in person, no matter which plan that we go with. Please be patient and understand that this is a first for all of us. We’re trying to do the best we can, we’re trying to think of all the situations, and try to make it the best experience for our kids who we’re all very proud of.”
