The COVID-19 pandemic created a slight snag in the progress on the Guthrie Activity Center Board’s remodeling of the kitchen area, but a grant from the Guthrie County Community Foundation has got them moving toward the finish line.

The Board received a $4,000 grant to go towards replacing the kitchen appliances, lights, ceiling tiles, and countertops; and painting the walls and cabinetry. Board Secretary Dennis Flanery says this renovation will give the space an overall refreshed look, to go along the building’s roof, facade, and interior upgrades, “If you haven’t been in the facility within the last year we renovated the main room and creating a meeting room, which we pretty much overhauled everything and added some new technology so that businesses could use it for meetings. But we didn’t touch the kitchen, so the kitchen was still needing some updates.”

As the Guthrie Activity Center has been closed because of COVID-19, Flanery hopes they will complete the renovation in the next couple weeks. Flanery also thanks the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County, the City of Guthrie Center, and the Guthrie Center Utility Board for their support of this project.
