While many across the state breathed a sigh of relief when Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the high school baseball and softball seasons would be allowed this summer, other levels of competition weren’t so lucky.
The City of Perry Little League baseball and softball leagues have both been canceled this year. Both programs are run by independent boards of directors, and with input from the City, the Parks and Recreation Department, and neighboring communities, the plug was pulled. Anyone who already paid registration fees will have the money refunded, either directly from the league or from Parks and Rec. The boards both indicated the reason for canceling the seasons was safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been widespread in Dallas County over the last few months.
The baseball organizers have indicated they may offer smaller clinics over the summer, if and when the situation allows, and both leagues encourage players to practice on their own.
